Let There Be Music And Song!

This year the Hellenic Community of Cape Town celebrates the 120 year anniversary of our Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint George in Woodstock and part of the festivities was a cultural and musical evening par excellence.

We gathered at the Metropolis of Good Hope in Rondebosch on Saturday 2 November 2024 for the blessing and opening of the new library and get-together venue with His Eminence Archbishop Sergios, Very Reverend Archimandrite Doukas Coulbanis and Very Reverend Father Nikolaos Giamouridis.

Then we sat on the lawn under a perfect Cape spring sky and enjoyed this milestone performance by members of our well-known Hellenic Community Choir led by our Choir Mistress Effie Saridakis and the all-new Hellenic Community Orchestra showcasing beloved and well-known songs and music by famous Greek composers and lyricists.

It was one of those times that will forever echo in our hearts and has opened up a whole new vista of festive musical opportunities for the community.

A very special and heartfelt thank you goes to our very own songbird Eleni Ratheb for this superb evening of music for the heart and soul.

Not only does she sing like an angel but she is the motivator and energetic force behind this milestone concert.

She has always had the vision to showcase the multiple musical talent of our youth and has worked tirelessly to organise and produce this memorable celebratory entertainment for us.  Bravo and bless you Eleni!

Another big thank you goes to Despo and the ladies of the Welfare Committee who laid on a spectacular array of finger-licking cocktail snacks!

That was part one of our 120 years celebration – what a way to go! XXX
