Speakeasy
What a night! What a party!
If you had wandered into our church hall on Saturday 23 November 2024 you would have thought you had stepped into Dr Who’s Tardis!
We broke out the feathers and sparklers, braces and fedoras and partied in the grand old manner of the sassy Speakeasy’s of the roaring 20‘s and thrilling 30‘s!
Everyone turned up looking like they had just stepped out of a Great Gatsby or Peaky Blinders movie.
For sure, the fun of playing dress up was a fabulous catalyst to take a dinner dance event into another universe!
Our revamped, refurbished and renovated church hall in Woodstock glimmered with glossy wooden floors, polished tables, candlelight and pearls and bling everywhere.
All in all it was an evening of rejuvenation in so many ways not only for our hall although, the grand old dame was all abuzz with oodles of razzle dazzle, but so were we.
And best of all we raised much-needed funds for the church. Finally we can call our hall our second home from home where everyone in the community from toddlers to “ou toppies” can gather not only after church for coffee but also to enjoy and take part in all the varied and wonderful hobbies, talents, skills and “kefi” that defines us as Greeks.
Kefi is in our DNA – it captures the spirit of joy, happiness, exuberance, enthusiasm and passion for life, food, music, dance, and culture that explodes out of our pores when we party!
And party we did ……. If you weren’t there, trust me, you lost out! It was an evening of discovery in many ways, showcasing what can be achieved by our own community.
The make-over and re-opening of the hall has been a major project on our wish-list for ages and now, thanks to the Hellenic Committee and all those who helped to get it up and running, it’s a great place again and will become the hub of our community.
An event like this doesn’t just happen – it’s the result of huge effort, brute determination and dedicated hands that conjured up this celebratory Speakeasy shindig and made it work so magnificently.
There is huge thanks due to everyone involved, from the Hellenic Committee to the army of ladies in the kitchen, our generous sponsors and the crew who got it all together.
But I have to say … Wow! Burps of total gastronomic enjoyment go to the crew of chefs in our kitchen. Yes I am talking about The Ladies of the Church, those wonderful women of our community, who produced a phenomenal three-course dinner for 150 guests! And they did it all from scratch.
Bravo ladies – you are diamonds!
And if you‘re wondering……. The hall is ready and willing to host your special party/ event. You‘ll love it for sure! Check out the info photo below . So there you have it ! We partied the night away like here was no tomorrow but we always have another festival up our sleeves, God willing, with good intent. Watch this space! XXX
